The Untold Story Of A Single Mother

Who is a single mother? A lady with no spouse but with a child or children.  Some single mothers were initially married but got divorced, some were legally married but the cold hands of death snatched their husbands from them,  turning them into not just a widow but single mothers,  and some unfortunately conceived out of wedlock and to the wrong person who didn't wish to consider them for marriage.

Also, two sets of ladies deliberately choose to be single mothers; They are mature single women who are approaching menopause and single adventurous girls who choose to conceive as an investment for a famous wealthy man. The mature single ones adopt this method when menopause draws near and the possibility of getting married appears slim, they conceive for any available man to beat up menopause. The single adventurous ladies see it as an investment from a wealthy man not minding if he's married or not,  if he'll marry her or not, all she's after is to get a good share of the man's wealth.

With pains in my heart, I write this article concerning single mothers, the ones that fate played smart on them and they conceived out of wedlock for a man who ended up denying the paternity of the child, and the ones that the cold hands of death snatched their partners from them, leaving them behind to face their calamity.  It appears that people hardly care to know what these ones pass through. The burden of single-handedly taking care of a child or children is quite demanding,  let alone the stigma that is meted out on them by society. The cry of the child of a single mother demanding his father breaks the hearts of their poor mothers.  Do we know what it means to grow up without a father figure, yet as a kid, you keep seeing other kids playing around their fathers, other kids running to welcome their fathers when they returned home, other kids going out with their fathers for shopping or sit-outs, other kids being visited in school during visiting days by their fathers and mothers, and there you are seated watching with tears streaming from your eyes to see the arrival of your lonely poor single mother.

The worst that can happen to these kids without a father figure is when their inquisitive friends in school or neighbors interrogate them about their fathers, some of these innocent friends in school go as far as to use their fatherless status against them when they have slight children misunderstanding which leads to these fatherless children's emotion broken and they return home to the same old question to ask their lonely mothers about their father.

Some single mothers in a bit to secure a father figure for their child end up in fruitless relationships as they make themselves desperately easy and available for a man to consider for marriage, and some men take advantage of their easy virtues and exploit them leaving them shattered and heartbroken.  You will see the poor innocent child who was happy that finally, the mother has a man in her life whom he or she can look up to as a father getting worried some days without seeing the man "Mum,  where is uncle? Is uncle coming today?" the child asks the mother. The heartbroken mother so confused about what to tell the child will say   "he traveled."  "Then when is he coming back?" the curious child asks.  "I don't know,  so I can't tell," says the mother.  "Mum, why not call him to find out when he's coming back? Tell him that I'm missing him and I want him back soon," says the innocent child.  "Don't worry when I get my phone loaded with airtime I'll call him and deliver your message as well okay," says the mother, and the innocent child jumps up in excitement. "Okay, mum,"

To be a single mother is a huge obligation, so please let's give them leverage when needed as most of them end up in tears every blessed day. Some are dependent with no tangible source of livelihood, and some who are independent are often faced with gold diggers who exploit them and take to their heels.  Did they commit any crime as they didn't end up getting rid of their pregnancy? No! Then why do we treat them with disdain? Why do families reject them if their sons should present them for marriage? Their secret tears are what they find difficult to tell anyone, they need our love.

That child without a father out there needs our love. That single mother out there needs our attention. Let's do away with negative criticism against them and appreciate them. To all the single mothers out there,  keep being strong.
